Job Title: Tax Accountant

Reports To: Finance Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Accountant with expertise in Sales & Use Tax, Business Income Tax, and Payroll Tax management. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, manages tax filings, and supports audits. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge across multiple tax domains, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales & Use Tax

    • Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across jurisdictions.

    • Research and interpret state and local tax laws to ensure compliance.

    • Maintain and reconcile sales tax accounts in the general ledger.

    • Support audits and nexus studies.

  • Business Income Tax

    • Assist in preparation and filing of federal, state, and local business income tax returns.

    • Perform tax provision calculations and deferred tax analysis.

    • Monitor changes in corporate tax legislation and assess impact on the organization.

    • Support tax planning initiatives to optimize effective tax rate.

  • Payroll Tax

    • Monitor and register in new jurisdictions as needed.

    • Collaborate with HR and Payroll teams to ensure compliance with wage reporting requirements.

  • General

    • Maintain tax records and documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation in tax reporting.

    • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on tax-related matters.

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 3–5 years of experience in tax accounting, with exposure to sales & use, business income, and payroll tax.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems and tax software (Avalara, ADP, or similar).

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with multi-state tax compliance and audits.

  • Familiarity with international tax concepts a plus.

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros).

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
